Shannon: Relief and Hope after a Debilitating Accident

Shannon was a self-sufficient single mother, working hard to make ends meet—until she became the victim of a serious accident.

About two years ago, as she walked along the street outside her home, Shannon was struck by a drunk driver; the accident was severe enough that she was pronounced dead at the scene by the EMT. However, through a miraculous turn of events, she was revived in the ambulance. Once at the hospital, in addition to her numerous accident-related injuries, the doctors discovered that Shannon also had cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Serious Injuries

With near fatal injuries and a litany of other long-term health issues, Shannon had to leave her job at a real estate agency. She faced a long, costly road to recovery. Unable to work, she turned to her church, but was told there was little support they could offer at the time.

Merciful Aid

In a state of precarious poverty, Shelia eventually came to Hope for the Inner City looking for any respite that she might find. She was greeted by Callie Chapman, mercy ministry coordinator, who prayed with Shannon and offered emergency assistance with food, prescriptions, rent and utilities. Shannon experienced the love of Jesus Christ and the peace of the Holy Spirit as she started the long road back to self-sufficiency.

While Shannon’s recovery will undoubtedly take time, it is the staff’s joy at Hope for the Inner City to care for its immediate neighbors, both physically and spiritually, during their hour of crisis need.
