Hope for the Inner City is committed to the following fundamental principles of ministry:
- Christian approach to ministry where the teaching and acts of Christ support all our programming.
- Holistic ministry that addresses the physical, social, and spiritual needs of all we serve.
- Asset-based ministry that seeks to draw upon the strengths of people, both individually and collectively as communities, and uses this as a means to determine the design, implementation, and evaluation of our programming.
- Relational ministry that seeks to link people of varying race, gender, and age together to foster a community of respect, sacrifice, and accountability.
- Incarnational ministry that seeks to be a presence in the community we seek to serve.
- Developmental ministry that seeks to move people from crisis to self-sufficiency.
- Collaborative ministry that seeks to utilize the strengths of our various ministries to work together in addition to drawing upon the strengths of our various partners.

Programs and projects are not our goal. They are a means to accomplish our goal: true change in the lives of individuals and transformation of whole communities as we apply the gospel of Jesus Christ to real-life situations with love, mercy, justice and compassion for the inner city.
